WHEATLAND (CBS13) – Thousands of people decided to try their luck at the new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino at Fire Mountain, which reopened Thursday amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Crowds cheered as the casino’s doors opened an hour early after spending some time closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hard Rock initially opened last fall.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Red Hawk Casino became the first two Indian casinos in the Sacramento area to announce they’ll reopen, despite the COVID-19 pandemic and California Gov. Opened in April of 2019, Harrah’s Northern California is located to the southeast of Sacramento, near Ione, California. It’s about an hour’s drive from downtown Sacramento. Inside Harrah’s Northern California The 71,000 square foot casino has 950 slot machines, and 20 table games. Thunder Valley Casino Resort is in Lincoln, California, about 30 miles from Sacramento. But the drive is worth it.
“It’s two months. I am glad to be back enjoying life,” one guest said.
Some people like Linda Clark were waiting in line since before dawn just to get in the door first.
“Very excited. We have been waiting for a long time,” Clark said.
Clark said she went to the new casino every week with a friend, both of Sacramento, before it closed.
“It’s new. It’s exciting,” Clark said. “It’s Hard Rock, so you can party.”
Clark’s friend Roberta Waites said she wins there all the time.
People came to the casino’s reopening from all over. Regina James drove from Oakland.
“Came to get that money,” James said with a laugh.
James said she didn’t mind the new health and safety protocols, like hand sanitizer stations, six-feet social distance requirements between guests and mandatory masks.
“It’s perfectly fine. Social distance is everything,” James said. “As long as the money’s clean it’s all good.”
The enthusiasm from the crowd was infectious.
“You betcha I’m lucky. I’m the only person standing in line that is thinking about winning,” Pat O’Neil said.
Guests said they hope the 38-page plan the casino has put in place will prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“I am very curious to see what the buffet looks like,” Waites said.
She’ll have to wait a little longer to find out as the buffet is under renovation and is expected to open in a month.

Celebrating in true Hard Rock style, the festivities continued all weekend long with a star-studded grand opening celebration that included a performance from British rock legends Def Leppard, Sacramento Business Journal reported.
Hard Rock Casino Has Star-Studded Grand Opening
On Nov. 3, casino guests enjoyed exciting marketing campaigns, including $10 in free plays, car giveaways and a cash prize of $1,000,000. The new Hard Rock Casino is continuing major marketing promotions throughout November, including a $100,000 giveaway on Nov. 24 and a 2020 Mercedes GLC drawing on Nov. 30.
The weekend grand-opening celebration also included a $100,000 donation from the Hard Rock Heals Foundation and the Hard Rock Casino Sacramento to the Enterprise Community Foundation, the charitable entity of Enterprise Rancheria Tribe.
'We are extremely excited that Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain is able to open its doors to locals, travelers, and lovers of the Hard Rock brand,' said Jon Lucas, chief operating officer of Hard Rock International, according to a report by PR Newswire. 'The development of the property has been such an amazing endeavor, and we could not have done it without the incredible partnership between the Enterprise Rancheria Tribe and the Seminole Tribe of Florida.'
A Casino 17 Years in the Making
Enterprise Rancheria first applied to secure the land for the Hard Rock Casino Sacramento site in 2002. The new gambling hall is about a mile from the Toyota Amphitheater in Yuba County, where Def Leppard performed during the grand opening weekend.
The Hard Rock Casino and Hotel sits on 300,000 square feet of land and features a 60,000 square-foot gaming floor with 1,587 slot machines and 57 table games with hundreds of pieces of music memorabilia scattered throughout.
The facility also boasts six restaurants, a 169-room hotel, a 10,000 square-foot convention space and an 8,000 square-foot ballroom.
The new casino is expected to give the Sacramento area an economic boost, including employing primarily locals.
“Many of our employees come from right here in the Sacramento area. We made a promise to hire locally, and that resulted in 70% of our staff coming from Yuba and Sutter counties. We had over 35,000 applications for 1,300 positions, which shows you the power and appeal of the Hard Rock Brand,” said Mark Birtha, president of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain, PR Newswire reported.
